Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

"Awakening"

This program is being shared free and on demand throughout the Month of May in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

Maplewood Township, South Orange Village, SOMA Cross Cultural Works and the AAPI Community unite to recognize and celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. As we stand in solidarity, the focus is on education, healing and creating joy as we honor the richness and diversity of Asian and Pacific Islander cultures with an exciting lineup of family oriented activities and programs.

                    New Year Evening Celebration 1 hour

 Year of the Golden Ox is a three-day virtual celebration suitable for every age group and families. Especially for those interested in Asian American cultural heritage. Each session is an one-hour special celebration that highlights the amazing, diverse aritsts collaborting with Nai-Ni Chen. Featured performances include Chinese Dance, Music, Acrobatics, Chinese Opera among others. The program will be begin on Thursday, February 11 at 7:30pm. Three one-hour sessions will be offered each day at 11:30am, 3:30pm, and 7:30pm on Feb 12 and 13, 2021.

 On the Chinese lunar calendar, each year is symbolized by a different animal of the Zodiac, and each cycle is represented by one of the five fundamental elements that the ancient Chinese believed made up the universe: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth.

            "Leaning Into The Unknown"

                                                     Berrie Center Presents

*Earlier this year, we sent a call out to NJ based artists to submit new works in progress in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Six artists were selected to develop their pieces for this project, and were streamed in September on our YouTube Channel. Due to popular demand, we have scheduled a replay beginning Thursday, November 12 at 8:00 p.m.  Audiences will be able to see all six performances in one exciting evening!  This video will be available for 48 hours after the 8:00 p.m. stream.
